CEBI denounces massacre of Palestinian people

For he will deliver the needy who cry out, the afflicted who have no one to help. (Psalm 72.12)

Meeting in Brasilia, the National Council of the Center for Biblical Studies – CEBI – expresses solidarity to the Palestinian people and denounces the massacre carried out by Israel, which is claiming the lives of hundreds of people, especially children.

The CEBI recognizes that violence in the territory of Palestine-Israel is coming from both sides. However, terrorism is mainly caused by the Israeli government, which, heavily armed and with the connivance of western powers, puts into practice a project of extermination of the Palestinian people.

Before Ancient Israel becomes a state, there were other people living in those lands , who did not always have their dignity respected. In modern times, the same happened with the aggressive occupation of Palestinian land by Jewish groups.

The recognition of the State of Israel in 1947, not accompanied by the recognition of the Palestinian State, encouraged the policy of invasion of Palestinian areas.

As an organization that works with popular and liberating reading of the Bible, the CEBI also denounces playing fundamentalists and biased interpretations, according to which God would have constituted the people of Israel as a "chosen people", which would allow him to slaughter other people to ensure land tenure.

Urging for peace in the region, the CEBI reaffirms the equality of nations, recognizing that all people are people of God. Because "In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him." (Acts of the Apostles, from 10.34 to 35).
